OK, folks - I'm sure you've all heard about S. Dakota's law banning ALL abortions. I'm also sure you've heard about Bill Napoli's opinion that women can't make their own decisions. And I'm sure you've heard about Cecilia Fire Thunder (Chief of the Oglala Sioux tribe) and her offer to build a clinic on Tribal land (therefore NOT covered by this law - she rocks!)

Wanna help the fight? Start here.

Folks, it doesn't matter where you stand on the whole abortion issue. This is a smack to all women *everywhere* over who actually owns our bodies.

I was thinking about having another Diet Coke in a few minutes - guess I'll call and ask Bill Napoli!

What an &*@^!*#.

Yes - I think you should.

I'm thinking I need to ask him to help me balance my checkbook, pay my bills, and plan our menus for the next 2 weeks so I know what groceries to buy (oh, and I need to ask him: name brand or store brand?).

He is a piece of work, isn't he?

My plan

We need a world, nation, where women feel honored, with institutions in place that give women support, health care for their unborn child as well as any already here. This nation's policies are far removed from that. I suggest that we need to insist that men take some responsibility for their actions in the abortion debate. So far the onus is only on punishing women for wanting an abortion; in severe cases (South Dakota) not having any choice even in the case of rape or incest. My suggestion is for any state that passes such stringent laws, legislation must include the following for men: (1) that the sale of Viagra also be outlawed in that state. (2) that all men residing in the state and any male visiting that state for any reason has to give up a DNA sample or be fined $50,000 and imprisoned for 5 years with no possibility of parole. If you like this plan, pass it on.

Sounds good to me!

What gets me is that there is NO exemption in the case of maternal danger (HELLP syndrome, anyone? Placenta Previa? Gestational Diabetes?)...no, the woman must put her life on the line for a child she may not have planned, and may not be able to support.

What I want to know is: if his wife/daughter/granddaughter gets raped and gets pregnant as a result of it, is he going to follow the law, or is he going to whisk her over the border to "take care of it"???

I have to say.. that after having 5 children and two miscarriages I still cannot agree that this is an issue of a woman's control over her own body.
My kidney has never kicked me in the ribs.. the control should be before a woman gets to that point in the way of birth control or abstinence.

That said.. some women are placed in a situation that they are not and I am turning to the side that they should not be penalized for that....

Yes, but it would still be illegal unless you are NA. Not exactly the greatest state to live in at the moment.
