It's very very slow today, so I thought I'd work on the rectangle shawl. The yarn had decided to snarl - BIG time...so I had to :gasp: cut it to get rid of the knot. :sigh: Now I have to figure out how to hide the ends in a lacy, teeny-tiny yarn. :sigh:

My tummy's all upset.....not sure why. Probably a virus - fun stuff! Co-worker is all congested and icky....hope it's not contagious.

Looks like rain....forecast didn't call for rain. Figures. :grin:

Since I'm stalled on the knitting front, and I've finished my book, think I'll go browse eBay. :lol:

Do you know how to do the russian join? It sounds like it would work for this situation, but I've never tried it.

I had thought of that, but....this yarn is 1 ply froghair, and 1 ply silk sewing thread.....I'm guessing it measures in at +80 WPI (no shit - it's Teeny!). There's NO way a needle will fit thru the froghair part. (Seriously - my handspun is almost the exact size as the sewing thread. I impressed myself with this one! :grin:)

I'm still cogitating over what to do here.......(need to post pics. I really do....)

There's another version of this maneuver in which you weave the plies together sort of like a plastic lace key chain. That should work with any size or type of yarn. You would have to unply a couple inches, thread each ply on a sewing needle, then weave back and forth between the plies behind where you've separated. Weave the two strands in opposite directions (silk back and forth, froghair up and down for example) It doesn't stand up to much stress, but the knit stitches will help hold it together.

I've also heard of doing it without doubling back, weave the ends of the old strand between the ends of the new strand. It sounds like a pain in the butt but doable.

Then again you could just spit on it and rub them together between your palms in hopes that the wooly bits will felt a little and hold it together.

Feel free to let me know if I'm being too much of a know-it-all. (I've been teased about that at work, Ugh!)
