So, today at work I had to listen to my boss and co-worker discuss buying more Hummel figurines for investment purposes. :bangs head:

Are people *really* this stupid? Are they not aware of what's going on with the GLOBAL economy? That we are NOT in a recovery, and won't recover for a very long time (if ever?)

I'm sorry......even if you DON'T believe we are watching Biblical Propehcy unfold around us, you have to admit things are bad....and that it's probably a good idea to invest your money in stuff you need to survive....like, canned goods. Chickens. Dairy Goats. Water stores. Vegetable garden/seeds.

NOT stupid, mass-marketed ceramic crap. :bangs head:

I...just can't think like that. (Let's see..over the past *2* days, co-worker has spent OVER $700 on Hummels. Mrs boss hasn't been that bad - she's only spent $400. But they are talking about buying MORE next week. Ummm.....$400 will buy a LOT of canned goods. Or a couple of young dairy goats. A small coop and 3 or 4 laying hens. Or....never mind.)

You can also use that kind of money to improve your home (assuming you own it). Better insulation, better security, etc. Paying off debts is a good thing too.

So even if you don't want to get into farming, there's a shit-tonne of ways to spend money wisely. Hummel figurines are not it.

Amen. I didn't even mention the $700+ spent last week on Royal Doulton figurines (WTF?) or the $$$$ spent on ...let's see.....ah. Baleek. It's seriously stupid.

I don't need to get fired, so I keep my mouth firmly shut - but it's getting harder and harder to do!

While we might have to agree to disagree on whether or not the current state of affairs is due to Biblical prophecy or good old-fashioned avarice, stupidity and corruption, we can certainly agree on what would be a sensible course of action! :D

I don't have the same issues with my co-workers, but they're all back doing weight watchers and spending their money on fake food ("Fat free half & half" WTF is that?). They did this several years ago, lost a collective 500lb plus and most of them have put at least 1/2 the weight they lost back on again. I'm saying nothing, because while they've been dieting and fussing and cheating and angsting. I've been quietly doing the sensible thing ("eat food, not too much, mostly plants") and I'm losing weight and keeping it off. Without spending money on expensive fake foods.

It's my birthday next week and if they get a WW cake for me I won't eat it. It'll take all my strength not to go off on a rant about fake food. I'd rather they didn't get me a cake, TBH.
