Photo post!

We've been busy around here, and photos have been requested. So....here ya go!
First up, the workshop. I call it the "Great White" - the color is blinding in the sunlight.

It's 16' x 20', and HUGE. ALL the junk from the garage is now here - mostly up in the loft - and most of SG's tools. The smaller shed holds the gardening stuff and critter things - and is full up.
Here's the garage now. I'll show the photos, and tell you what I've got planned - but PLEASE, if you have any ideas/suggestions, SHARE. I need all the help I can get - the loom will take up 6'x6', and I'm thinking it'll be in the middle, but hey - I am arrangement challenged. So, hit me with your ideas!
Anyway - these 2 were taken from the current garage door:

Typical garage, right? It's 18' x 21', roughly. Window on the right side, facing the street. The water heater/softener/filter will all be hidden behind a screen - we have 3 sets of shuttered bi-fold doors we are going to hinge together, stain, and set up in front of them. The pantry will be moved to beside the freezer an refrigerator - here, let me show you that:

The current plan is to move the pantry (the big white unit) to where the pie safe and armoire are. Wait - there's going to be a small chest freezer next to the side-by-side (a..kegerator for SG's beer. I...didn't ask; he's given me most of the garage, and a small freezer was a small price to pay), and the pantry will be next to it. The pie safe and armoire are my stash - the pie safe is the spinning stuff, the armoire is some of my yarn. It'll be replaced with a jam pantry (plans on Ana White's site) so that it "fits" with the pie safe better, and it'll have more shelves, so that the fabric stash will have a home, too. The pantry will also be replaced with something nicer - whether SG builds it or we buy it is up in the air at the moment. The armoire and pie safe will be where the pantry is now, and the shelving unit will be GONE. My 2 "extra" wheels will go there - yes, they are in the path of the door, but they'll be safe from any water problems, should the water heater et al go "boom".
Above the chest freezer will be the round pot rack (in front of the window right now) - it'll hold my dyepots and SG's cheese pots. The grill will be moved to the workshop for now, leaving me SPACE. We're going to run shelves around the top of the room, for decorative knick-knacks, extra equipment (bobbin winder, for instance) and whatever. Books...I need to figure out where to put the books. And magazines. :argh!:
OK. The sewing machine is tentatively placed in the corner near the current garage door. (Which will be replaced with 2 3'x4' windows and a set of French doors). The table will stay in front of the window - I'm going to refinish the top to look like some sort of stone, and it'll be used for Science experiments/cutting fabric (there will be barstools around it for Science). The loom will be in the middle of the room, on a rug. The floor will be painted (I'm leaning towards sandstone-ish), and protected with garage-floor epoxy. The walls....were going to be Amber, but I'm thinking of going slightly darker. We'll see.
Let's go into the house now: The finished (well, almost) kitchen:

This is the same side I showed in the before pictures of the kitchen. We still need to repaint the trim, but it's pretty much done. Sorry about the mess - we're still all 6's and 7's around here. :sigh: I'm working on it!

This is the side going out into the garage. (Yep. Sheep butt leading outside. That door will be replaced with the interior door - there's a sheep taking a bubble bath on it, which you'll see going From the Studio into the house. The laundry nook is right there, and it's got a mural of a sheep washing his fleece, a demented Angora bunny with a spindle, and the bathing sheep.) You see the light trim? SG picked it out, I didn't like it..and he's now come to my side and says he hates it. We're going to go dark brown for the trim - it'll go with ALL the colors in the house, and this stuff will be the window sills and trim in the studio.
Here's the breakfast area:

There's 3 colors here - the kitchen, the nook, and the family room. There's really no other way to do the colors - it's an open floor plan. Still, it works. The terra-cotta color is going to be replaced - I was going to do a coppery color, but we just decided to use the Amber (formerly in the studio) there instead. It'll lighten up the whole area, which is the plan, but still have the same "feel".
Moving on - the bar. Here's a before, with the bookcase, to show the former color:

And the after:

I'm not sure you can tell in the photo that the color's changed, but it has. The Saffron was green-based; the Butter Cookie is gold-based. BIG difference in real life! The whole area is brighter and more serene now - I LOVE it! (The outlet cover will be replaced with a metal one...probably copper. The kitchen covers are all beaten silver, and they "classed up" the place a lot.)
My new rug:

The colors are perfect, and I love the Craftsman feel of it (WalMart, $50. Yes, for real. I was surprised - and happy!) The coffee table will sit on it, and 1 end table will be next to the sofa/love seat. The other end table - I have no clue.
And..the current refinishing project - I give you my coffee table:

11 years of hard-living took it's toll. It was a cheapie - it and the matching end tables were "free" with our sofa and loveseat. The end tables weren't as bad, but I figured I might as well do all 3 at once.
Here's the "new" tops:

We're not done yet - the legs and base will be glossy black, which will set off the "granite". SG wants to hit the coffee table with another layer of bar-top (he just LOVES that stuff, more than I do. He also wants to ensure that the finish lasts - I can't argue with that!). The kids each did an end table, and I did the coffee table, and I LOVE how they go together, but don't match. Looks "real"!
I gotta go milk Zorra, and I'm out of pictures, so..... Hit me with ideas for the studio, please - colors/arrangements/whatever.

Date: 2012-02-29 03:26 pm (UTC)The pictures are hard to get a really good grasp of color and whatnot in, but they do give you a good sense of the space involved.
And I'm not showing you my garage. Anna (who thinks I'm a neatnik) would not approve. ;)

Date: 2012-03-01 04:32 am (UTC)My husband says if we get money from taxes we can do flooring in out house. I hate spending money.
We have space. But I have a hard tiem putting things away - my husband - sheesh him and anna would be like peas in a pod - he loves to straighten up stuff. If we go to a messy place he starts to twitch. funny.
