I gotta admit, I got...pretty much nothing today. So. How about some pictures??

She is so talented! Very artistic - and always happy to do stuff for me. Some of it...well, I can't show you right now, because I need to mail it out, but this - this I can show you. And I had to apologize.

What am I talking about? Well....

Yesterday, SG and I wanted to go target shoot. I had printed off a bunch of targets (from here), but couldn't find them. So, I grabbed 2 sheets of paper, and asked her to draw me *something* so I could target shoot. She happily jumped up and grabbed a sharpie....and I found the pile of printed targets. :bangs head:

BUT. I HAD to use the target she drew for *me*.

Here ya go:

Target Bunny

That was my 2nd clip. 13 hit the page, 2 missed. I think I know why...but first, look at my 1st clip:

Target

(Sorry it's sideways.) 15 out of 15 hit the paper. :happy dance: (OH, and SG's 2nd target was a "happy shark". With Big Nasty Pointed Teeth, too.)

Basically, I changed my stance, and closed 1 eye. I think the 2 I missed is when I switched which eye was closed - I shot with the right eye closed, then when I was hitting the target consistently I switched. *That* seems to be when I missed both times. (Not sure why it worked on the first clip, unless it's because I had a larger target (same size page, though.))

Now, I'm sure some of you are scratching your heads wondering WHY, all of a sudden, we've gone gun-mad. Well..... I've been watching the news - not just locally; I watch the PBS versions of German and Tokyo news, too. And what I'm seeing.....is more and more reporting of gun violence here in America - not just the "big" stuff, but little stuff that about a decade ago wasn't even on the radar (like Friday, for example. Police were called out for "Suspected Gunfire" at a local mall. Turned out to be nothing more than a knocked-over trashcan. Folks, a large, heavy metal trashcan on a tile floor does NOT sound like gunfire. At ALL.) and I'm seeing more and more people becoming anti-gun....to the point that I've gotten lectures when I'm Wal-Mart's hunting area. It's weird...because this state has ALWAYS been big on firearms. And the reports I'm seeing are skewed to make it look like ALL guns are bad - and it's working. Propaganda usually does...

Look, I'm not one of the "everyone needs to carry, all the time!" camp, but I'm also not anti-gun. Frankly, I support the Constitution - and it says I have the right to BEAR arms. (And...I'm kinda miffed that I have to pay the State to carry concealed...that's NOT what the Constitution says - but that's another rant for later.)

And that's why SG and I are going to get the CCL. NOT because either of us think we *need* to be able to carry concealed (really, WHERE? I mean...I don't leave the house much, and it's legal here to have guns in my house, and to USE them to defend ourselves. So.....I'm looking at spending $250+ for something that I'll probably not use. We really only go out 1 day/month....except for my 2 days at the office, but....yeah. That might be the only place, but......I dunno.)...but we both think we need to be "grandfathered" in. Just in case.....

Because what I'm seeing....isn't pretty. And...I know what's coming. Broad-picture, anyway....and I don't want to be defenseless should I/my family be here for it. (Please Lord, come quickly!) Yes, we'll be teaching both kids to shoot - we have .22 rifles for them, but need to get them to a gunsmith first (they're SG's from his childhood, and he wants to make sure they're safe. I agree!) Do I think everyone should be armed. Yes.....as long as the person is not mentally unstable. (Which is another can of worms.....but for the most part, yes, everyone has the right to bear arms.)

I'll try not to spam y'all with a lot of shooting stuff, but this was too funny to not share. Just...be aware of what's going on, OK? And take stock.....you might need to change your thinking on a few things. Not just religious, either - but please, take a step back and take a good, long look at what's actually going on in the world. Because it"s not pretty out there.

When DH was refurbishing one of his almost 100 year old sniper rifles (his hobby) I asked him what the difference in power between this old rifle and a new sniper rifle.

Apparently, nothing. The new ones are quieter.

That's something to make you think, considering one of his rifles has a stamp on it from Tsarist Russia.

If you wish to continue thinking, you might note that getting a collector's license is quite simple - and allows you to buy online.

Love the bunny.

And nice grouping, too.

Of course, being an alien living in Massachusetts, I can't get any sort of permit. *sigh*

However, my room mate asked me yesterday if I'd take him shooting. He's afraid of guns, but wants to go shooting at least once. So we're going up to New Hampshire at the weekend, to a range, and he can try his hand at shooting.

don't worry - that bunny would have not lived to be a threat to any more carrots after the first shot!

I for one very much enjoy my guns. I blog about them fairly frequently, and I thank the founding fathers for their foresight in ensuring my right to bear arms. I enjoy reading about your venturing into the gun world, thank you for posting about it.
If I may make a suggestion, when I first started out in the gun world I had no idea what I was doing. I too called magazines clips and I didn't see what the big deal was but I was lectured numerous times about the difference between clips and magazines. Then I ran across this video that explained the difference and I realized that it was like when someone comes up to you and starts referring to your knitting as sewing, with hooks and string. You want to give them the correct names and then show and teach them lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF21sihEgOU
