and much more eloquently than I could do. Go here for a well thought out entry and (so far) polite discourse on it.

Also, did you know that sometimes, when a 'puter mouse dies, it does so with a firey finish that leaves pyromanics in awe? It's quite an impressive way to commit suicide, I'll give it that, but a bit disconcerting when it does it *as you're trying to update your webpage*. (Seriously - sparks flew everywhere, and it got reallyreallyreally hot. To the point that I yanked it out of the back of the box and threw it into the sink hot.)

And, Thrallmart is not the best place to go at 6:30 AM to replace said mouse. Too many perky people snapping up bargains.

Whoo Hoo!

Yes, folks, I have joined the 21st century - we now have DSL here at the ranch.

In fact, I just took a phone call while online! :pause for the giddiness to pass:

Yes, it's silly - but I've dealt with dinky dial-up *forever* here at the house. This - this is wonderful!
fiberaddict: (silly: Pirate Penguins!)
tonight and possibly tomorrow. I just talked to Sprint and did a whole bunch o' changes to my phone bill.....dumped the one-way metro, added high speed internet; since I'm not sure exactly *when* the one-way metro will disappear (she said "within 24 hours"), I won't risk using my dial-up (which is LONG DISTANCE from my home phone. Which is why I had one-way metro in the first place.)

I still have access up here at the office, and the new modem is supposed to show up *here* tomorrow. We'll see.

The upshot of all this is a $40/month savings on the phone bill (even with *adding* the high-speed...strange, no?) PLUS a $15/month savings on my (antiquated) AOL. (Yes, I have AOL. Get over it - I've had it for-freaking-ever, and am too lazy to go around changing all my contact info.*g*)

Happy? Oh, yes - I'll finally be able to do website updates from the comfort of my home instead of having to dump everything onto a CD, hauling it to the office, dumping it to this PC, then uploading from here. Lots of work for simple changes, no?

My webpro brother said he'll try to get one of the shopping carts up and running for me, so that's even better. AND my SIL is doing better, so that's good.
fiberaddict: (QOW: Zot)
and I proudly admit it!

Finished "winter" sock #1. It's purty - the yarn and the snowflake pattern work together perfectly; my coworker looked at the finished on at lunch (I was *thisclose* to being finished with the toe) and said "That looks like Winter. Like...a snowy sky." *g* Since this was exactly the look I was going for, I am extremely happy!

Plus, it fits :perfectly:. If you've never worn a handknit sock, you just don't understand the wonder and bliss that they are. :happy sigh:

Pictures WILL be forthcoming - I have a photo tent on the way; soon as it gets here I will be updating most of the photos on the website and cobbling together a storefront. (Why use etsy when my hosting company provides a shopping cart (that I can't figure out)? No listing fees or commissions....just a bit more advertising on my part.)

Must get back to sock #2 - I'm halfway down the ribbing.
fiberaddict: (Calvin: Toilet)
1) Website it up and running. Can't figure out the stupid shopping cart, so the strorefront....isn't, but they fixed my storage space and I think all the links work. (Feel free to go browse and play with it. If something's broke, I need to fix it, but I've looked at it so much I'm blind.)

2)The Zoey-monster decided her tail was possessed last night. I woke up this AM to a scene out of a horror flick - blood *everywhere*. Every time she wags her tail, blood flies. Spent 2 hours this morning mopping and scrubbing, and it's still not all up.

3)Mother/daughter/friend banquet at church. Italian food for lunch - not enough garlic. At all. Mom, me and Herself sang a song - it went over well. Except for the lack of garlic-ness, it was good.

4)Walmart didn't have a swimsuit that I even wanted to think about trying on. However, the kids both have new ones now, and we have food again...so that's good.

5)I broke the Kubota. The PTO won't stay attached - it clicks into place, it's snug, I engage the PTO...and the damn thing walks right off and flops all over the place. I just wanted to mow my stupid yard!

6)I've got most of my yarn re-skeined for new photos for the website. Some will definately go up on the sales page - I have way too much handspun sitting around. I need more wool. It's win/win - once I figure out the *(&&^%*(&(* shopping cart script. (It's Agora, if anyone has a clue to offer me. I can also use OSCommerce (both are included in my web hosting package), but Agora looked more user friendly. HA!)

I'm tired, I need a bath (covered in Tractor Grease, dirt, and partially cut grass...ick!), and I need to do laundry. Laters!

*sigh*...

Finally got my webpage sorted out (I couldn't upload stuff. At.All.), deleted the old pages (BIG MISTAKE), started uploading the new and improved versions...and RAN OUT OF SPACE.

WFT??? I upgraded from 100MB to *400*MB. There is No Way in Hell I have used 400MB already. (All I did was shuffle some of the photos around and added a few pages. Pages take up virtually No Memory - it's the photos that'll get you).

I go into the cpanel...and low and behold they haven't actually upgraded my account. *sigh* I fired off yet another email to customer support...now we wait and see.

Meanwhile, my website is only half-assed there. *sigh*
fiberaddict: (fiber: dyed wool)
a blue ring finger, and a purple pinky! EE Dyes will do it every time - and the wool is *fabulous*!

4 oz of a lovely spring green, 2 oz of saffron yellow, 2 oz of rose-ish pink, 2 oz of purple, and 2 oz of blue. So far. I still have 2 oz ready to dye, and another pound of wool sitting around. Guess I need to break out the Kool-Aid next! *g*

And, anyone got any good domain registrars? I need to transfer my domain from my brother to me.....I can't use godaddy, since that's where he's at, and they won't let me transfer. :pout:

Thanks!
fiberaddict: (silly: Llama llama duck)
if my website goes down today or tomorrow. I upgraded my account, they sent the new info...and I can't access the 'effing site to upload anything! :sigh:

That's OK for today, though - I'm at home with dinky dial-up. Uploads take *forever*, so I'll dump the site to a CD and upload it tomorrow at work (loves me my DSL!)

Since I can't do anything from here, I decided to do a massive update. You have *no* idea how pathetic I am....I even took a picture of my bobbin winder. (In my defense, it's pretty cool - it's a standard LeClerc, it clamps to a table, but it didn't have enough clearance to hold my storage bobbins (you'd think, it being LeClerc, and my storage bobbins being LeClerc....) - my FIL built a cool little stand for it. I wanted to show off his brilliance.)

I've got 25 new pictures of equipment to code and upload...plus I'm thinking I might want to reword some of my pages. We'll see......I may not be sane enough after I get all these pictures coded!

Meeting my vet at 12, then off to pickup Himself for his quarterly checkup. I've already dyed 4 oz of wool (a nice spring green using EE dyes), cut out and sewn up 2 chemises (black and tan), vacuumed, cleaned the cooktop, polished my wheel, clock reel, blocking reel for the photo shoot, rearranged the studio annex (and re-rearranged it back)....busy day.

Well, back to it!
fiberaddict: (SW: miracleman)
I updated the webpage (finally...it took a LOT; damned thing kept bombing out or saying the disk was full...I ended up deleting my gallery (which I never really used) so I could get all this stuff on.) *sigh*

Anyway - we now have a page for the Fair.

And..a button for it on the related pages. *g*

Have fun!
fiberaddict: (fiber: Bluster Bay Shuttle)
Bored at work today - co-worker is at Mrs. Boss's house helping her clean out the closets. (.............) - Yeah. Like, that's in our job descriptions! *sigh*

I've been fighting the weaving bug. I need to get both wheels cleaned off, the yarn skeined, washed and blocked for the fair...but I am thinking weaving thoughts and planning projects. The problem? I still have at least 3 yards to go on the never-ending dishtowel warp.

The pattern is nice, not spectacular, but nice - I was playing around with WinWeave, and decided to go ahead and weave it (It's a Huck variation/combination). I got ambitious - wound...oh, at least 10 yards (I can't honestly remember if it was more or not - I know it's at least 10) of 8/2 cotton and decided each towel would be the same treadling, but with different wefts.

*Yawn* B-O-R-I-N-G. On a jack loom, I'd have no qualms with changing the tie up and going to town...on this countermarche? I really don't wanna.

I need to just buckle down and Weave. But the wheels keep seducing me - I have my FIL's tam yarn on the Castle wheel, and some tweedy sock blend on the Norwegian...and some *gorgeous* winter-y roving sitting on the woven portion of the warp that is *screaming* my name.

Must. Finish. the. Tam. Yarn. *Then* I can weave. (Any bets on if I can hold out? *g*) I have 1 handspun scarf I need to weave (for a charity auction....need to get that done!)..then I can start on 2006 Christmas gifts (yes, I start planning Now. The actual weaving....probably won't start until, oh, November. The 27th. Or so. *g*)

Hmmm, wonder if winding a few warps will help me focus on the spinning.....*snerk* More than likely, I'll end up tossing the remainder of the dishtowel warp and diving into something new...and ending up rushing the spinning of the tam yarn the weekend before the entries are due at the fairgrounds.

Oh, and for those that like formulas to figure out maths - here's a yarn calculator that figures the requirements for *your* next weaving project:

http://www.main.nc.us/wncfhg/yarncalc.html

Seems to be pretty good! (And this is why I am having weaving withdrawal...I played with it a bit too much yesterday afternoon, I think...)
fiberaddict: (Calvin: Happy Dance)
to the website, that is. I've uploaded a *ton* of pictures, to most of the craft pages...but.

You need to go here and check out the closeups of my Norwegian wheel. Words just do NOT do justice to her!

I am aiming to get better pics of my Scottish wheel this week/end, but we'll see. Gotta get the tree down, first!
fiberaddict: (brilliant)
OK, so I finally finished the updates. Yea! Go me! and all that stuff. *g*

You can see the new stuff on these pages:

the Studio
the Dye Experiements Page
the Wheels page
the Spun Yarns page

Did some housecleaning, also....mostly just uploaded some new pictures.

Enjoy!
fiberaddict: (fiber: socks in progress)
I've been playing with the webpage today. I updated the knitting, socks, weaving, and warping pages (you wanna see, just go to the main page and hit the links..I'm lazy today *g*).

I took new pictures of almost all my socks, added some socks, added a hat, and tried to clarify my warping instructions. I still need to add pictures to the Dye page, and retake pictures of my wheels and CSM, but this'll do for now.

I've come to a conclusion - I need a set schedule for all my fiber pursuits, or I'll never get anything done. I'm going to *try* to weave on Saturdays and in the early AM; I will crank out socks on M/W/F, and I will spin T/Th/Sun. Handknitting I will carry with me as a travel project each day - socks are small and portable (plus, I'm on a sock kick right now). Except for this week.....*eg*

I have changed my next spinning project - I was going to spin up the green and purple lambswool from the last mad scientist day, but I woke up this morning with a desperate need of Autumn-themed socks. So, tonight I will dig out some wool - either Ramboillet or Border Leicester - and dye up 2oz lots of brown, orange, yellow and mossy green. I'll card each color seperatly, then stack them a'la Deb Menz, card them again, and pull a roving out of 'em. I want to get this done before the Library demo.

The purple fuzzy sock on the CSM is coming along - I'm ready to turn the heel. I discovered that if I stand up, shove my left hand down into the sock and crank, the CSM hums along nicely. If I don't, it skips stitches, snarls, and growls at me. Picky thing. *g* I may or may not work on it tonight - I gotta dye wool (see above *g*)

My current hand-knit sock is coming along...but - HORRORS - I am going to run out of yarn before I finish sock #2. I got this roving when I bought my Joy wheel, so I know it came from the Woolery, but that's all I am sure of. I *think* it was from Bonkers; I remember it being touted as a "sock blend"...and it's synthetic, but that's all I know.

I need *MORE* of this! The batt was layered - Magenta/Blue/Brown with bits of green and yellow. Butt-ugly. Spun up muddy...but knits up divinely. Anyone out there have anything resembling this in your stash??? I'm begging, here....

The Woolery has something that sounds similar, and I will be placing an order on payday, but I'm not sure it's the same thing. I'd like my socks to at least resemble each other....

Why am I running out? I haven't a clue. I think I found the yarn so revolting I passed the rest of the batt on...but I don't *know*. I may have let people play with it while demo-ing - I know I demo'd this stuff; the colors are wild enough that they catch people's attention. I just know that I had 1 ball of 2-ply (in between sock and sport weight, mostly), and a very very very small bit of unspun batt.

I'd hate this sock to be an orphan....anyone got anything remotely resembling this? :whimper:
fiberaddict: (fiber: sheepie knitting)
So, not a whole lot going on right now. I lured 2 folks over to the dark side Sunday - a 7 year old at church has been begging to learn to knit, so I hauled up a set of 8s and some worsted wool for her...when I left, she was happily knitting away, pleased as punch.

Then, I coaxed my mother over...bwahahahahahahahahahaha. She had knit before, but forgot a bit. She's cheerily knitting along, now. And today? I have aquired a new padawan - she'll be learning at the Bedford Games. :g:

Daycare lady has also expressed a desire to learn knitting...and possibly weaving. My dark plan for world domination and a sheep for everyone is coming along nicely. :snerk:

Did not tackle the CSM last night...my loom was singing her siren song, and I had to answer it. I'm already sick of this warp..20 yards is an awful lot from this side of it (I've woven off maybe 3 yards. :sigh:) I want to start on my shirt fabric! (/whine) Purple warp with occasional green (narrow) stripes/variegated purple/green/electric blue weft. Should be nice, and I am excited with this idea.

My padawan sold my corset, and I'll be getting the funds at Bedford. I've already started getting my wish-list together - I need some more 8/2 cotton, and I want to restock my wool stash. (Like I *need* any more wool...)

Now, a question: Can anyone help me figure out how to re-size pictures for iconage? I can shrink them down to 100 x 100...but I can't get the stupid files to compress. I've got some pics of the CSM, Finn, yarn samples....and I'd like them to become icons. :sigh: My blonde-ness is showing again.

huzzah!

the website is all of a sudden back up. i have *no* clue what's going on there....but. i have changed all the blogring links to come directly *here* (to livejournal) instead of pointing to the embedded page on the website.

not much going on *here*. i am going to work, coming home, feeding the zoo, then hitting the sheets. every day. not sure where the exhaustion came from....but it *has* to go by sat. when the kidlets return.

*yawn* well, off to bed for me!
fiberaddict: (Cpt. Obvious)
So, my mother came out today with one of the EDS techs. He was nice enough to volunteer to drop in the video card I got from Tiger Direct.......but.

As usual, my luck with electronics sucks. The card, it does not fit. Oh, it does not fit at all. My HP has PCI cards (not whatever the other type of card is, he looked) but the break or whatever it is is in the wrong place. Even turning the card around backwards didn't work....*sigh*.

The good news is that Himself is off to her house, so I don't have to hear the whining. The bad news is that the card doesn't fit, and I don't think it'll qualify for return (since it's not defective, as far as we know, but it's out of the plastic now.) *double sigh*

He said he'll check it out for me....but yeah. He's notorious for procrastination.

So....any suggestions on what to do now? I *would* like to be able to play the stupid $25 game we have sitting here.......*g*

ETA: The card I just got is the nvidia GeForce 6200, if that makes a difference. My PC hates it.
fiberaddict: (Sexy Kilt)
I need to upgrade the graphics card in my PC. It's a HP Pavilion, about 1.5 years old, running M$ XP.

The reason? Himself has discovered that you can *play*games* on the computer! Games about *Star*Wars*. And *Legos*. You can even play a *Lego* game ABOUT *Star*Wars*.

Or, you could if your Mom's PC had a graphics card that supports Pixel Shading v1.1. *sigh*

I have NO clue what to look for when upgrading PC parts. I've looked at cards, and it's all gobbly-gook to me.

I talked with a tech at EDS....he had me "download" some "upgrade" for Windoze....and told me it would work. Ummmmmmmmm, yeah...if the PC is *telling* me it needs a new card, why would a download work? But, I sighed, and did the download, then went to "install" it...and it turns out I didn't Need the Download, I already Had that version of whatever......and Himself still can't play Star Wars with Legos on the Computer, and he's just going to Die if I can't get it worked out.

Or so he says.

So, anyone wanna offer me some advice? So I don't look like a total n00b in front of the 'puter place people? Please?? *g*

Cheap would be nice, especially since I'm probably gonna have to pay someone to stick it in. I don't like messing around with the innards of my PC...it makes me nervous. (Anyone wanna hold my hand with *that*, too?)

Thanks muchly - I will be in your debt. And so will Himself!

So, those who know me IRL know that if it's a gadget that I can see will make my life easier, cooler, more efficient, whatever, I will buy it. I love, love, love gadgets. Yesterday, I discovered the (current) coolest gadget around.......the Griffin iTrip.

Whee! I can now play all the tunes on the iPod in the car! All 676 songs currently loaded......without having to shuffle CDs or risk accident or death swapping them in the changer.

I can see that I will be having much fun with this......*g*
fiberaddict: (Zot from Aeire's Queen of Wands)
I'm working on customizing this silly thing. You might see some.....errr.....interesting stuff, if my experiements prove anything.

*sigh* HTML is *easy* compared to customizing LJ!
fiberaddict: (Read from QOW by Aeire)
Thanks for the congrats - the loom is great, and Himself has already claimed it. *g* He informed me this AM I needed to rewarp it NOW, so he could test it for me. *eg*

I'm going to check the trash pile this afternoon to see if there's anything else out there I'd be interested in. Probably not, but who knows?

On a totally unrelated note, anyone out there know how to add a banner to the top of my LJ? I'm stuck. I have the banner, I have the bandwidth to link it...and can't figure it out. *sigh* HTML is easy.....LJ customization, not so much.
