We've lost over 1 MILLION acres here in Texas to wildfires, and they're not stopping yet. We need rain - badly! *We*, personally, haven't been affected - yet - but they're getting closer. Been under a burn ban for a couple of weeks already - so, send your rain and snow this'a'way, please! Supposed to have some thunderboomers this afternoon; it's already overcast and stormy looking, but we were due some last night, too, and they skipped over us. 's alright, IF they go to where they're needed.

Rosa's still holding out. She's SO big and uncomfortable - wish she'd pop!

We worked on handwriting today. I'm going for a slightly modified Palmer hand - it's neat, it's quick to write...it's just not *pretty*. Still - I'm going for legible, as both kids can't write worth a darn. Messy - both of them look to be doctors in training by the handwriting. I'm doing the drills, too - I could use to "pretty up" my writing as well.

I've started Himself with a fountain pen - it'll lighten up his hand, and make his letters flow, moreso than a ball-point will. Messy, yes - he's got blue ink ALL over his hand today, but his letters look better. I'll start Herself once she's home full-time.

Need to reboot laundry - can't use the line today, but I still gotta wash clothes.

I know I feel so bad when we complain about the rain and snow that were getting here, it's hard to work calves, and we have allot more calves to doctor due to scours. April Showers bring May Scours.

Thunderstorms scare me when we were so dry in the summer, esp the dry electrical storms, thunder and lightening and no rain. I can't begin to tell you how many fires were started when lightening hit a pile of round bales, or they hit trees.

We spent 10 yrs of dry summmers, wishing and praying for some sort of moisture, watching the grasshoppers ravish the pastures and crops.

You might want to look at an Italic hand. This looks like a useful book.

The advantage of Italic over most other hands is that it doesn't do all the loops and flourishes -- unless you want to add them. That makes it quick to write and easy to keep legible when writing at speed.

I taught myself Italic when I was 13 -- it took me the 6 weeks of summer vacation, working an hour a day most days to transform my original left-handed drunken spider scrawl into a neat, quick legible hand. Now, 40+ years later, despite several years of writing all upper case on coding sheets, I still have a quick legible hand.

And one other thing -- if your kids are lefties, don't make them do that dreadful curl the wrist so they can write from above thing that American teachers seem to love. Turn the paper, so they can write with their wrist straight and their hand below the work -- no smudges that way.
