fiberaddict: (fiber: River (Firefly) I'll Knit)
I promised you photos, and photos I have. I slapped together a webpage for them - please excuse any stupid spelling errors or coding errors. I did this each evening; I was tired, and there was nothing else to do (no cell phones/internet/TV out in Terlingua!)

The link is here. There are a lot of photos, so be warned.

The trip was great....Big Bend was hot, but we did see some rain our last evening there - in fact, it knocked out the power for 3 hours. Not a big deal...except that it was 105* when the power went *off*....it didn't take long for the cabin to heat up to almost unbearable tempratures.

I'm almost to the toe decreases on sock #1. Would have gotten more done...but I was too tired each evening to even think about knitting.....and I couldn't knit while hiking. (Too rough of terrain....it would not have been fun to fall while hiking 900' ABOVE the road, just because I needed to knit one more round....)

The Motel 6 in Webster sucks....big time. We won't be using them again....NASA was fun, as usual, as was our surprise stop in Galveston.

Got home to bad news, though...co-worker's husband has been in the hospital for 2 weeks. They are sending him home this week....because he's terminal and only has 3 or 4 days. :sigh:

we're exhausted, and I've just now emptied my inbox. (Only 150 emails....:whew:) We've had NO net access since last Friday....but I got a ton of pictures.

I've got a webpage slapped together - soon as I do a bit more editing, I'll upload it and post a link. It was a *great* vacation!

Off to bed now....

'til we leave on vacation! :bounce:

Got my Grafton Needles last night - talk about customer service! I called Carolina Homespun last Wednesday. Gave a quick run-down on why I needed the needles ASAP, gave my color choices (with the caveat that beggars can't be choosers - needle color is an extra in my book anyway). The office lady called me SATURDAY to tell me that Morgaine was at a show, but that she had my needles, and if it was OK Morgaine would ship them out to me Priority on Monday - they couldn't guarantee that I'd get them, but they'd give it their best shot. :boggle:

Lovely needles. I got my first color choice (Alabaster Solids - a nice teal-y green) - they are very well made. Switched the sock-in-progress over.....the needles are short (well, DUH - I ordered the 5". My Knitpicks are what - 7"?) which, actually, are better for me - less ends waving around. For this sock...not so much - I have 50 stitches on the heel flap..and they *just barely* squeeze on. The needles have more grab than the Knitpicks, and seem to have just a squidge more point. They are *Very Nice* (or, Darn Pretty!), and I like them.....I just can't justify replacing all of my DPNs with a set of them (darn it - they are really, really nice needles!)

Got another ball of 3-ply finished last night - it's balled up and ready to go. I'm pretty sure the original ball is enough for a pair of socks...but now I have reassurance that I won't come up short on sock #2. (Still might run out of yarn - I'm only taking the sock and 2 balls of the sweater yarn. I'm hoping there's a yarn store *somewhere* in the back of beyond..if not, I know where there's at least 2 in Houston.)

Back to musing over what I need to do tonight......Dry Ice is on the list. I figure I need to pack the Jeep tonight, food and all, which will require something a bit cooler than Reddy Ice.

I'm exhausted, but I only have 4 days this week....but I have to pack. Yes, I am running amuck here - fun stuff!

I'm posting my to-do list here...if any of you intrepid campers want to look it over and tell me what I forgot, I'd appreciate it. *MY* idea of "roughing it" is a hotel without a pool.....this vacation? We're in a cabin. In the National Park. *2 HOURS* away from civilization. Primitive isn't the exact word *I'd* use for this, but it's close.

Cut to spare ya'll.....I'll be updating this all week )

 Thanksgiving weekend was great, but my PC is DOA. Well, that's not entirely true - the PC is powering on, but the monitor refuses to actually, y'know, SHOW anything. :pbbbbt:

Anyway, it's long (*4* days worth!) so I'll use cut tags. Fasten your seatbelts - it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

I need a vacation from my vacation! I'm pooped - and I didn't do any of the driving!

and Himself is up here at the office with me. Dental appt today - did you expect them to *do* anything? Nope - just looked at the x-rays, glanced in his mouth, and said "Come back 12/5!". Oh, and "if you want it all done in 1 trip, we'll have to go to the hospital. Otherwise, it'll take 4 visits". Blargh....

So, anyway, he's here, and he's bored. He's been good, though - he brought along his 2nd grade math book (he's 1st grade, and bored with it) and worked in it, and colored, and looked out the windo, and is now on our couch sucking on jolly ranchers (yes, I know - think about his teeth! What can I do, though?)

Note to self: the water in Webster SUCKS. As does the tea. Haul some along next time.

We bought J. a jigsaw this weekend from a pawn shop, so he's now set up to make me some hair forks. Whee! Now, to actually get him to *do* it. :g:

Hair is the same......the chlorine didn't seem to affect it in any way, nor did the cheap shampoo and condish. It's still hanging out at BSL....and I'm still impatiently waiting for it to grow longer.

I restocked the vitamin cabinet - new 1 a day (w/o iron), new hair/skin/nails, horsetail, minerals, and essential oils (this is a blend of 6, I think....Udo's is 4. We'll see how this works). I can't wait to measure next month to see if they have any affect.
